I am a filmmaker and journalist with more than 20 years experience in the media industry in Australia and overseas.
As a child I roamed the desert sands of remote outback Australia -from Tennant Creek to Laverton and Kalgoorlie. My mum struggled to keep shoes on my feet. I just love to feel the earth underfoot. It was a carefree childhood.
A move to Adelaide city exposed me to urban concrete and clay. It wasn’t long before I was rocking sneakers, publishing street magazines and newspapers, making community radio shows and building websites.
After years of independent publishing, multimedia production and academia, where I obtained first class honours in Communications, completed Master of Journalism coursework and lectured in media, popular music and organisational communication, I moved to corporate media and communications.
As desire to travel and live in distant lands saw me head abroad to Vietnam. Based in Hanoi for three years, I worked as an international development volunteer for a Vietnamese NGO, a producer and presenter for Vietnam Television and English news editor for Vietnam News Agency. During that time, I travelled Southeast Asia extensively. I have also lived and worked in Indonesia for the United Nations (UNICEF) and East Timor with the CSIRO.
A return to Australia included a move to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation as a television and radio journalist and producer. After a few years working in one of Australia’s most dynamic newsrooms, a story I broke saw me spread my wings into the world of documentary.
The rest, as they say, is history.
I run boutique production house Weave Films, where I make my own films and collaborate with other filmmakers on their projects.
I am passionate about documentary and have expanded into drama. I am obsessed with the potential of virtual reality. My multimedia skills have made a return as I focus on multiplatform projects.
I still continue to work as a journalist, when time permits. Most recently, I’ve freelanced for the ABC, BBC, The Project and Seven Sunrise and Seven Sunday programs.
I co-host Square Eyes with mornings presenter Adam Steer on ABC Radio Darwin every Tuesday morning, where we talk about everything seen on screen. Effectively, the scene on screen.
